If your jewelry package is held at customs, contact Or Globe immediately at +33 1 46 27 48 48. We will request that FedEx, UPS or DHL transfer the packages to us, we will complete your customs declaration and redeliver the package to you as quickly as possible.
What documents are essential for customs clearance of jewelry and artworks ?
The essential basic document is a detailed commercial invoice or original proof of purchase. Depending on the type of goods, Or Globe may request additional documents: CITES permits (organic materials), certificates of origin (precious stones), heritage authorizations (antique artworks).
What is the flat-rate tax on artworks ?
In France, there is a flat-rate tax on the transfer of precious metals, jewelry, art objects, collectibles and antiques (French Tax Code, art. 150 VI et seq.). Rate: 6.5% of the sale price or declared value. It applies particularly upon the final export of certain artworks. It is collected by the tax authorities, often via customs at the time of export.
Are all Or Globe transports automatically insured ?
Yes, 100% of Or Globe transports are automatically insured. We offer ad valorem insurance covering the full declared value, with no excess or limitation. This all-risk insurance covers: theft, breakage, loss, weather damage and exceptional events.

Depending on requirements, items entrusted to us benefit from custom packaging designed by experts. We use ISPM15-treated solid wood crates, memory foam technical padding and moisture-barrier films. For jewelry: we prioritize security and discretion to deter theft or unauthorized opening. For artworks: precision bracing, anti-vibration system. Each package is tested and certified before shipment.

What is the VAT rate applicable to jewelry and artworks in France ?
The VAT rate varies according to the nature of the goods:
- Original artworks: 5.5% (reduced rate) – paintings, sculptures, prints signed by the artist
- New jewelry and watches: 20% (standard rate) – fine jewelry, luxury watchmaking
- Antiques over 100 years old: 5.5% (reduced rate) – antique jewelry, art objects

What is an export license and when is it mandatory ?
An export license is a mandatory administrative authorization required to export certain French cultural property abroad. It concerns artworks and antique jewelry exceeding specific thresholds:
- Paintings: over 150 years old and value > €150,000
- Sculptures: over 50 years old and value > €50,000
- Historical jewelry: over 50 years old and value > €50,000
- Manuscripts: over 50 years old with no value threshold
Or Globe handles obtaining these licenses from the Ministry of Culture, with lead times of 2 to 8 weeks depending on the complexity of the file. Without a license, export is prohibited and subject to fines of up to €450,000.
